Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa was amongst the 30 notable Nigerian leaders and business tycoons honoured at the Nigerian NewsDirect 14th Anniversary on Friday night in Lagos.

Namadi bagged the Governor of the Year Award in Agro-Investments and Security, 2024.
Namadi, who was represented by Malam Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government to receive the award, said he was pleased with the recognition and happy his contributions were being acknowledged.
In a short remark after receiving the award, Namadi said, he was highly elated with the recognition of his investments in agriculture, security, education and health for the benefit of the people.
He pledged that the award would serve as inspiration to serve his people more thus providing them with better life and safety.
Amongst the top government officials who accompanied the Governor to recieve the awards were the State Commissioners for Information Mr Sagir Musa and that of Higher Education, Prof Yusuf Chamo and three technical advisers to the Governor.
Other award recipients included Gov. Adeleke of Osun state, 0 Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu; and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig-Gen. Buba Marwa.
Business tycoon, Alhaji Aliko Dangote was awarded Business Leader of the Year, the Registrar- General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Mr Hussaini Maigaji bagged award of Exemplary Leadership in Public Service
Speaking, Ashiru, the Chairman of the Occasion, said that the anniversary was to celebrate excellence in public and private sector.
He applauded the late Founding Publisher/Editor- In- Chief of Nigerian NewsDirect, Dr Samuel Ibiyemi, Ashiru said that his legacies had remained huge and must be sustained.
In his remarks, Ibiyemi, who noted that his late father started the annual awards, said that no better stakeholder in the country could identify and assess people in different critical sectors apart from the media.
He said that the he organisation went to various states and ensured due diligence to identify people and organisations with exemplary Impacts, before accepting nomination of the recipients of the awards.
He said that he team paid a visit to various states and identified the passionate zeal and sterling performance of some governors including Namadi and Zulum.
“These awards should be an encouragement for the recipients and it should also be a way for them to reassess themselves and to identify areas they can improve on.
