Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, has commended Jigawa state Governor Umar Namadi, for his commitment and dedication to agricultural transformation and food security.
The Minister made the commendation on Tuesday in Dabi town, Ringim local government area of Jigawa state, at the 2025 Wheat Farmers’ Green Field Day.
He explained that, Namadi’s efforts are in line with the Federal government’s Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu, to support commercial agricultural production and ensure food security.
Kyari, revealed that the federal government is highly impressed with the commitment of the Jigawa state government and farmers, for embracing wet as well as dry season farming activities.
The Minister further, saluted Namadi for championing the federal government’s initiative of boosting wheat cultivation, through the provision of farm inputs and modern farming techniques and innovation.
“Agriculture is the cornerstone for Jigawa’s economy which contributed to about 50 per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product and employing more than 90 per cent of its population.
“The population of the state is known for food production, livestock farming, cash crops and its the largest producer of sesame and hibiscus flower in Nigeria,” the Minister said.
He however, tasked other states of the Federation, to emulate Jigawa, in order to sustain the Tinubu administration’s commitment to food security in the country.
Furthermore, the Minister assured that the Federal government through the Ministry, is commitment to building partnerships and engagements for more agricultural transformation.
In his speech, Governor Umar Namadi, reiterated determination of his administration, to introducing more policies and programs that will provide job opportunities, wealth creation and food security.
According to him, “We have procured 300 tractors, improved seeds and other farm implements, for massive cultivation of different crops across the 27 local government areas of the state.
Earlier, the Jigawa state Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Muttaka Namadi, said the federal government released 3,500 metric tones of certified wheat seeds to support wheat cultivation in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that that the Jigawa state government in collaboration with the Flour Milling Association of Nigeria (F-MAN), organised the 2025 Wheat Farmers Gereen Field Day.
It was aimed at celebrating the remarkable achievement recorded in wheat production by the state in 2024 and to focus on the 2025 production.
