Sen. Abubakar Kyari, Nigeria’s Minister for Agriculture and Food Security
Ringim (Jigawa) Feb. 18, 2025(NAN) Federal government has ordered food retailers to effect the present prices of food items and desist from exploitation of consumers.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security,  Mr Abubakar Kyari gave the order on Tuesday in Dabi town, Ringim local government area of Jigawa state.
He decried the failure for retailers to reflect the current reduction in the prices of items, thereby denying Nigerians, the relief they deserve.
The Minister urged the retailers, to correct their pricing in good faith, describing yhr exploitation of consumers as unpatriotic and unacceptable.
“In previous months, stakeholders in the retail value chain, raised concerns in rising cost of food items. Now that the prices have dropped, such as flour, whichnfell from N81,000 per bag to below N60,000,” he said.
The price of Spaghetti he said, has fallen from N20,000 to N15,000, saying that it is only fair and just, to let consumers benefit from food price  reduction.
Kyari however, expressed the Tinubu administration’s readiness to effect food availability and engage with relevant stakeholders to reflect the current market realities.
The Minister and his entourage were in Dabi town of Ringim local government area of Jigawa state, to mark the 2025 Wheat Farmers Green Field Day.
The event was organised by the Flour Milling Association of Nigeria and Jigawa state government, to celebrate the Federal and Jigawa state government’s giant strides in the dry season wheat farming in 2024.
