    Babura, Nov. 9, 2025

Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology (FUT) Babura, Jigawa, Prof. Sabo Ibrahim Birninkudu, has appealed to stakeholders  including corporate bodies, philanthropists and wealthy individuals to assist in developing the university.

Birninkudu, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Babura, on Thursday, saying that the gesture will form part of their Corporate Social Responsibility to the institution.

According to him, “People should come and be part of history, in developing this university. The university is here to help to develop the economy of Babura and the northwestern part of Nigeria in general.

“This is a university of technology, it is a specialized university, not a conventional and common ones that are available everywhere. This is the only federal government university of technology, in this axis.

“And this is an opportunity given to Babura and Jigawa state in general because wherever you have a university, there will be a solution human capital development, and by the time human capital is developed,” he said.

He also explained that universities are established to assist the national development of a country, adding that the university is not an exception in that regard.

The VC added that while the university was established in 2021, it commenced academic activities in 2022, with 13 programs that spanned across three disciplines-sciences, computing and engineering.

According to him, under school of engineering, the university offers three programs, including electrical, mechanical and civil engineerings.

Ibrahim-Birninkudu added that under school of computing, the institution, has three programs-computer science, cyber security and software engineer.

“While at school science, we run seven programs-Bsc. Mathematics, Bsc. Chemistry, Bsc. Industrial chemistry, Bsc. Biology, Bsc. Biotech, Bsc. Physics, Bsc. and Geophysics.

“And we are currently doing full accreditation after which we will mount additional programs,” the VC said.

Ibrahim-Birninkudu added the university was able to build supporting units like physical planning unit, security office, centre for information technology, library, among other units.

“So government alone might not be able to develop a university from a scratch to the level that it need to be.

“And even though some residents provided temporary accommodation for some of our staff, we are still facing accommodation challenges.

“We expect more people, wealthy individuals, banks, construction companies, among others operating in the state, to provide support through their coporate social responsibility.

He however, stressed the importance of collaboration between the university and the community, noting that its success would provide job creation and rapid development.

It is therefore important for all of us to get involved in the development and expansion of this university,” the VC added.
