    Gov Namadi sets up technical committee to domesticate and implement tax reforms

    Jigawa stategovernor Umar Namadi, has set up a technical commitee on the new tax reform policy to study, domesticated and implement the new policy in Jigawa state.

    A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor Mr Hamisu Gumel made this known Monday.

    It said that the committee was set up to study and implement the new Federal Tax Reform Policy at the state level, in line with the Federal Government’s ongoing fiscal reforms.

    The statement said that the fiscal reforms aims at broadening the revenue base, improving efficiency, and ensuring fairness in Nigeria’s tax system.

    The statement dislosed that while inaugurating the committee at the state Council Chambers in Dutse, the governor said the initiative was an effort to strengthen the state’s fiscal capacity and enhance service delivery.

    “The technical committee was set up for the investigation and implementation of the new tax reform policy, which is expected to take effect across the country from January 2026,” Namadi said.

    It explained that while outlining the committee terms of reference, Namadi said it was mandated to study the new Federal Tax Framework, identify and recommend areas for domestication at the state level.

    The commitee according to the statement, would develop a practical implementation strategy and roadmap, propose necessary strategic and administrative adjustments.

    It would further engage stakeholders, particularly the business community and civil society, to ensure public awareness and compliance with the new law.

    The Governor according to the report, charged members of the committee to discharge their duties with diligence, integrity, and a spirit of teamwork.

    “It is expected that the  the committee would submit an initial report within two weeks, a direct implementation roadmap within six weeks, and a final report of recommendations within two months,” ordered the governor.

    In response the report said, the Chairperson of the commitee, Prof. Hannatu Sabo, expressed gratitude for the confidence bestowed on them.

    Sabo, who is also the state Commissioner of Finance, assured the governor of the committee’s commitment, to deliver its mandate.

    “We accept this duty wholeheartedly, and we assure you that we will carry out our responsibilities with full dedication, diligence, and the highest sense of responsibility.

    “We will approach our work with professionalism, commitment, and integrity,” the report quoted the Chairperson.
