Jigawa state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has solicited for partnership with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria(ALGON), to revamp the media sector in Jigawa state.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the ALGON Chairman in Dutse on Thursday, Chairman of the Jigawa state Council of the NUJ, Comrade Isma’ila Ibrahim, appealed to ALGON to rescue the media sector.

He said that NUJ, is acutely aware of the critical role that information plays in governance and public service delivery.

“It is with this understanding that we aspire to establish a stronger collaborative relationship between the NUJ and ALGON to empower our information personnel on enhancing effective communication.

“Furthermore, we kindly request that ALGON considers providing information officers with motorcycles to improve their mobility, enabling them to perform their duties more effectively.”

Moreso, the Council chairman urged ALGON to support information officers with modern working tools such as digital recorders and cameras.

The tools he explained, are vital for enhancing productivity and ensuring accurate information reaches the public.

Responding, ALGON chairman, Jigawa State Chapter, Prof. Abdurrahman Salim, expressed delight over the development and welcomed the partnership.

He emphasized the critical role of information dissemination in governance and public service delivery.

According to him, “Effective communication is essential for transparency and accountability in our local governments.

“We believe that equipping our information officers with the necessary skills is vital for enhancing the flow of accurate information to the public.”

The Chairman however, assured the NUJ of ALGON’s full support in building the capacity and competence of information officers, stressing the importance of training, to be abreast with the evolving media landscape.

This collaboration reflects ALGON’s commitment to fostering a well-informed citizenry and promoting effective governance through enhanced communication strategies.
