    Dutse- Friday, October 3, 2025

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has commissioned a landmark solar electrification project at the Dutse Ultra-Modern Market, providing alternative energy to more than 300 shops.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Friday in Dutse, Namadi said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering clean and reliable energy solutions that reduce costs and boost business profitability for traders.

“Today, by the power of God, we have fulfilled the promise we made a year ago — to provide solar-powered electricity for Dutse Market. Three hundred shops are now connected and fitted with solar-powered fans.

This will ease business activities, increase profits, and ensure traders enjoy uninterrupted power supply without paying electricity bills,” he stated.

The governor recalled that part of the project had earlier been inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who commissioned the market’s power grid installation during an official visit to Jigawa.

Namadi further pledged to install solar-powered streetlights in the market to enhance security. He also highlighted broader initiatives by his administration to support businesses, including facilitating the establishment of a Bank of Industry (BOI) branch in Jigawa. Through a signed MoU, the state government has injected ₦4 billion into BOI to finance small-scale enterprises.

The governor urged entrepreneurs and traders to take advantage of the facility to expand their businesses.

Chairman of the Jigawa State Traders’ Association, Mr. Yahaya Ibrahim, commended the governor for the initiative, describing the solar project as a timely intervention that would ease the burden on traders.

Several shop owners also expressed joy over the development.

Muhammad Auwal described Governor Namadi as “a visionary leader who moves with the times.”

Alhaji Aminu Muhammad noted that the project would significantly reduce traders’ expenses on electricity while improving their earnings.

The project was executed by the Jigawa State Economic Empowerment and Youth Employment Agency.
