Jigawa state Immunization Officer, Mr Shehu Ibrahim, has said that the state targets 3.186.521 million children, representing 48-49% of children between nine months -14 years.

Mr Ibrahim made this known on Thursday at a one-day media sensitization on Measles and Rubella campaign held in Dutse.

He revealed that the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA), has trained 150 teams for the exercise.

According to him, “Each of the teams has 11 people to cover the 288 wards across the 27 local government areas of the state,” Mr Ibrahim explained.

He explained that 1,571,391 of the targeted children will be vaccinated against polio alonhside children between 9 months to 14 years, who will receive MR vaccination.

Children between 0 to 9 months will receive Novel Oral Poliomyelitis (polio type/nOPV) vaccination, 0 to 23 months will receive Routine Immunisation (RI) and those of nine years will be vaccinated against the Human Papilloma virus Infection (HPV) 

In his presentation, UNICEF’s Project Facilitator for Jigawa state, Mr Shuaibu Jibrin, highlighted the role of the media in covering the exercise and enlightenment. 

He revealed that the exercise will be conducted between 6th to 15th October 2025, urging caregivers to support the project.

In his remarks, Dr. Kabiru Mustapha, The Jigawa state Coordinator of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said the event was organised to address the upcoming immunization.

He appealed to all stakeholders particularly the media, to support the exercise in order to save children from the diseases.
