    Chamo (Dutse), Sept.8, 2025

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with Foreign Commonwealth Development Office of the UK government (FCDO), has handed over climate resilient Infrastructures for Basic Services to Jigawa state government, to mitigate climate change in the area.

While speaking at the hand over ceremony held in Chamo community on Monday, The Director Development of the FCDO, Mrs Cynthia Rowe, said Nigeria is vulnerable to a variety of climate hazards.

According to her, Nigeria ranks second amongst countries where children face the highest climate-related risks, directly threatening their ability to survive, grow, learn and fulfil their potentials.

UNICEF country representative Mrs Wafaa Saeed in her speech at the function, pledged continuous support to Jigawa state in view of the commitment of the Namadi administration’s commitment to improving the lives of women and children in the state.

Mrs Saeed, revealed that UNICEF in collaboration with the FCDO and other partners, including the Kano and Jigawa state governments, developed an innovative project, the Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Basic Services (CRIBS) Health and Education.

However, Saeed, commended Governor Namadi for sustaining the campaign against Open Defecation by providing enough public toilets for the Citizens.

She further revealed the commitment of UNICEF, in helping Jigawa State to reduce the number of out-of-school children, noting that the efforts of the administration on education, revealed that the problem would become history.

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state while speaking, commended the development partners thus describing their intervention as “innovative strategies to tackle Climate Change,”

According to Namadi, Jigawa is amongst the state’s with a high risk of natural disasters such as flooding, drought that affects schools and health facilities.

He pledged to continue to support the development partners to improve the well-being of children, women and the state at large.

The structures handed were Primary Healthcare Centres and primary Schools, located at Chamo community in the outskirt of Dutse.
