Jigawa State Government has signed a partnership agreement with Indian agro-tech company, CornTech Seeds Private Limited, to enhance agricultural productivity through hybrid seed technology.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Givernor, Mr Hamisu Gumel made this known on Tuesday.

He said that Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa state, received the delegation from the firm, led by its Chairman Mr. Venkateswarlu Yaganti, at the Government House in Dutse.

The agreement according to the statement, was built on an agricultural investment mission, undertaken by a Jigawa delegation to India in May, 2025, during which discussions with CornTech, identified areas of collaboration.

Under the terms of the agreement the statement disclosed, CornTech will introduce hybrid seed varieties of maize, rice, wheat and vegetables to Jigawa.

“The initiative also includes multi-location field trials, joint research on climate-adapted seed varieties, farmer and extension worker training, and post-harvest management support.

“CornTech’s Nigerian entry will be facilitated through its local partner, Feredo Agro & Bio Farms Ltd,” the statement emphasised.

The statement however, revealed that Namadi described the agreement as a milestone in the state’s agricultural reform drive.

“Jigawa has the land, the people, and the market. What we need now is modern technology, and CornTech has the expertise. This collaboration will be a win-win,” the statement said.

CornTech’s CEO Yaganti, expressed optimism about replicating India’s agricultural success in Jigawa.

“The agricultural transformation of India, can be replicated in Jigawa even much faster with modern communication and information technology,” he stated.

The three years agreement was signed by Yaganti on behalf of CornTech and Dr. Saifullahi Umar, Director-General of the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency (JATA), on behalf of the state government.

The report disclosed that the partnership is expected to boost crop yields, strengthen food security, and improve livelihoods for thousands of farmers across Jigawa.

It was gathered that the agreement has aligned with Gov. Namadi’s 12-Point Agenda for agricultural transformation and sustainable development.
