Jigawa state Executive Council has approved the sum of N121,950,000 only for three months extension of the Free Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Services at 271 primary health centres across the state.

The state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture,  Mr Sagir Musa made this known in an interview with newsmen on Thursday, after the state executive Ccouncil meeting.

He said that the sum of N150,000 would be disbursed to each facility monthly, to strengthen the spirit of equity and universal healthcRe across the 27 local government areas.

The action he said, was as a result of the successful pilot phase of the program in 10 selected PHCs in Gwaram, Garki, Galambi, Basirka, Sagu, Kiyawa, Malam Madori, Maigatari, Roni and Taura local councils.

“The pilot project, demonstrated significant impact in improving access to essential health services for women and children,” the Commiccioner revealed.

In the same vein, Mr Musa further revealed that the Executive Council had also approved the sum of N1,000,000,000.00 as the 2025 State Equity Fund to expand access to quality healthcare.

He stressed that the Namadi administration is committed to strengthening the health sector and ensuring that no citizen is left behind, in accessing essential health services.

The equity fund he explained, will sustain quality healthcare services for the 287,000 beneficiaries, (children, pregnant women, the poor, elderly and persons with disabilities), under the J-Basic Healthcare Programme.

“Similarly, the Council has further approved increment in the number of enrollees from 500 to 1,000 per political ward.

“The state Equity Fund is a critical component of the J-Health Basic Social Insurance Program, aimed at removing financial barriers to healthcare by covering the cost of services for those who are unable to pay.

“With this approval, Jigawa State reinforces its commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and improving health outcomes for all citizens,” Mr Musa explained.
