The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved ₦869,638,271.18 for the construction and rehabilitation of Tsangaya schools across the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, disclosed this on Tuesday in Dutse while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the council’s weekly meeting.
He explained that the funds will cover renovation works in seven Model Tsangaya Schools, as well as the construction of 30 Recitation Halls and 30 Reading Spaces across local Tsangaya schools.
“This initiative is designed to ensure the provision of at least one project per constituency. It will also enhance access to quality Islamic education and create conducive learning environments for Almajiri pupils.
“This is in line with Governor Namadi’s commitment to integrate Tsangaya education into the state’s human capital development agenda,” Musa said.
In a related development, the council also approved ₦1,547,614,974.00 as bursary allowances for 22,388 returning students of tertiary institutions within and outside Jigawa State.
According to the commissioner, the beneficiaries are enrolled in 83 tertiary institutions nationwide, comprising 13,622 male and 8,766 female students.
“The bursary allowance programme remains a key component of our strategic agenda to expand access to education, ease the financial burden on parents, and empower Jigawa’s youth to achieve academic and professional excellence,” he added.
Musa emphasized that the approvals reflect the administration’s inclusive approach to education and its commitment to supporting both Islamic and conventional learning as drivers of sustainable development.
