    Dutse, Feb.1, 2025
Information Officers in Jigawa state, have appealed for government’s intervention for more capacity building and professional development to move with time.
This was contained in a communique issued by the Officers on Saturday, at the end of a 2-day workshop organised by the state Ministry of Information, Youth, Sport and Culture Friday and Saturday in Dutse.
The communique signed by ‎Yusuf Suleiman, Chairman of the communique drafting committee, highlighted the need for the state to address shortage of manpower in the state information sector.
The officers unanimously appealed to the state civil service commission to look into the issue of recruiting more information officers to fill the gap in the sector.
‎Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr Ismail Ibrshim, Information Officer at the office of the State Head of Service, said the training was wake up call for professional enhancement.
He appealed for sustaining such trainings to boost the morale of the information officers and provide a forum for interaction and sharing of experiences.
Speaking on the aim of the workshop at the end of the event, the state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa, tasked the officers to move with development.
Mr Musa identified that the officers must brace up to uphold the era of Artificial Intelligence else they will be left behind.
He said, “In our capacity as government,  we are ready to enhance their skills through capacity building and providing technology to boost their performance in information dissemination.
“We are ready to provide more capacity building for them to ensure that they carry out their tasks competently and ethically,” Musa said.
The Jigawa state Ministry of Information, Youths, Sports and Culture organised a 2-day capacity building workshop for Information officers across the 27 local governments.
The theme of the workshop which ended Saturday, was “The role of the Media for development in a democratic setting.”
