Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has pledged to promote Indormation and Communications Technology (ICT) and make it a central pillar of his administration’s policy.
He made the pledge on Friday night in Abuja, when he emerged the Digital Governor of the Year 2025 (Northwest Region) Award, at the Nigeria GovTech Public Service Awards.
The event, organised by the Bureau for Public Service Reforms (BPSR) under the Presidency, held at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In his speech at the function, Namadi appreciated the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) and the Nigeria GovTech Public Service Award Committee, for their effective management.
According to him, “Promoting ICT is a topmost priority for us. Our objectives include reclaiming the past glory of Jigawa State, as a pacesetter in e-governance and the deployment of ICT in achieving socioeconomic development.
“Some of the specific interventions achieved over the last two years includes the formulation of a robust ICT Policy & Strategy, establishment of the Jigawa State ICT & Digital Economy Agency.
“The almost moribund Galaxy ITT Limited, established over 20 years ago, which was also the precursor to the Federal Government’s Galaxy Backbone, was revived with additional investments to support the implementation of our vision of Digital Economy.
“Over 1,000 youths were trained on various digital out-sourcing initiatives to create digital job opportunities, equally 1000 civil servants were trained on various aspects of ICT to promote e-governance in the State”, Namadi explained.
He however, pledged to remain steadfast and committed to this endeavour, as he implements the aspects of his administration’s 12-point Agenda, which also aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President, Bola Tinubu.
Namadi further affirmed his administration’s commitment to continuously improve the social and economic well-being of the people of Jigawa State.”
It was gathered that Namadi received the award for his remarkable efforts in digitizing governance and modernizing service delivery in Jigawa State.
He was recognised alongside other governors including Gov. Alex Otti of Abia, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Douye Diri of Bayelsa, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau states respectively.
The Governors were all recognized for their contributions to public service and ICT in particular.
The theme of the event was “Redefining Possibilities: Harnessing Emerging Technologies for Public Service Delivery and Socio-Economic Development,” which emphasizes the role of technology in enhancing governance.
