Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has restored electricity to Kwalam community in Taura local government area of the state after several years of darkness.
The governor commissioned the power restoration project on Sunday, as part of the administration’s weekly Citizen’s engagement program across the local government areas of the state.
While speaking at the event, Namadi explained that the reconnection is part of his campaign promises to restore power in communities that were thrown into darkness.
He stressed that rural and urban electrification remain key components of his administration’s 12-point agenda to expand energy access, stimulate economic growth, and curb rural-urban migration.
In his remarks, Jigawa state Commissioner of Power and Energy, Dr Surajo Musa, revealed that the Namadi administration had invested so much to rehabilitate outdated power lines and replaced faulty transformers.
The Commissioner appealed to the nebefitting community to take stake of the project and ensure sustainability through quality maintainance. 
A residents of the area who spoke with our correspondent, expressed delight over the restoration.
Mr Muhammad Auwal, said he ran out of business due to the power situation in the area about five years ago.
“I owned a small bakery and when we lost electricity, I had to shut down because I couldn’t afford to run it on generator,” he said.
He commended governor Namadi for the restoration, saying that many businesses will revive and thrive.
