Emir of Dutse, His Royal Highness Hamim Muhammadu Sanusi, has tasked journalists on upholding ethics and integrity in their profession to thrive through the new media era.
He made the call on Thursday when he received the excutive officers of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Jigawa state Council, led by the Chairman of the Council in his Palace.
The Emir, described journalists as celebrities, who were role models in the past years, decrying that the image of the profession has been tempered with, with the proliferation of the social media.
According to Sanusi, “We will do our best, as a Grand patron of the Union, to ensure that the integrity and the image of the profession is restored.
“Our doors will always remain open for you and I want you to feel at home and approach the emirate whenever the need arises,”the Emir said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ, Jigawa Council, Comrade Ismail Ibrahim, introduced the new excos to the emirate and appealed to the emirate for guidance.
Ibrahim briefed the Emir on the state of the NUJ Secretariat and the interventions received to rehabilitate 8t and make it habitable.
He further pledged to discard quack journalists in Jigawa state and uphold the ethics and integrity of the profession.
Meanwhile, the Chairman appealed to the Emir, to maintain the status of the Grand Patron to the union, in order to proceed with the support given by his late father to the council.
