A banker, Mr. Muhammad Alhassan, has urged members of the Birnin-Kudu Old Boys Association to prioritise career development and embrace technology in order to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.
Mr. Alhassan made the call while presenting a paper at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Sunday at the school premises.
According to him, technology does not only create new jobs but also renders obsolete those roles that fail to adapt to innovation and modern trends. He stressed the need for individuals to continually upgrade their skills and careers by leveraging world-class learning platforms.
“There are several tools available for building digital skills, including AI-powered guidance and feedback systems, as well as professional networks that connect users to global opportunities,” he said.
Mr. Alhassan further noted that technology-driven work tools enhance productivity and efficiency, while also providing opportunities for remote work and freelancing pathways.
He cautioned against dwelling on the past, urging members to embrace the present in order to shape a better future.
“We should not be relics of a bygone era, but pioneers of a new age. We must adapt, evolve and rise, because technology does not replace people; it rewards those who utilise it effectively,” he stressed.
In his remarks, the National President of the Association, Birnin-Kudu Old Boys Association (BIKOBA), Mr. Ja’afar Usman, called for increased support from government and other stakeholders.
Mr. Usman explained that holding the annual meetings within the school premises was intended to enable members to assess the condition of their alma mater and identify areas requiring intervention.
He commended the Jigawa State Government for its sustained interventions in the education sector, particularly the budgetary provision for the renovation of the college.
On behalf of the Association, the President acknowledged the support of the Dangote Foundation, Ganduje Foundation, Qatar International and the National Communications Commission (NCC), as well as contributions from various class chapters.
He also commended the Birnin Kudu and Buji Local Government Councils for their support to the college during emergencies, while expressing concern over the poor condition of the BIKOBA secretariat annex in Dutse.
Mr. Usman appealed to members for financial support to enable the Association address the challenges facing the secretariat annex, particularly its fencing and rehabilitation.
The President further raised concern over alleged irregularities in admission procedures in the school.
He however, warned that admitting students into senior secondary school, without completing junior secondary education could lower academic standards.
He called on the government to investigate the issue and reintroduce junior secondary admissions in line with existing policy.
