    Armed Forces Remembrance: Gov. Namadi, others donate to Nigeria Legion

    Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has launched the Armed Forces Remembrance emblem and donated over N11 million to the Jigawa state Chapter of the Nigerian Legion on Tuesday.
    While speaking at the launch, Namadi described the armed forces as honourable people who made sacrifice for the country to thrive.
    The Governor said that Nigerian owe the fallen heroes who have paid the supreme price for the peace and security of the country.
    According to him, “These people have greatly contributed to the peace of the nation and so I appeal to Nigerian citizens, to ensure that these people enjoy a decent life.
    “We are enjoying relative peace and ,ife in general because of the special sacrifices they made,” Namadi said.
    He then donated the sum of N10 million naira to the Legion, on behalf of the state government, followed by a donation of N1 million personal donation.
    Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Jigawa state Chapter, Mr Aliyu Ahmed, expressed gratitude to the government and people of Jigawa state for their support to the Legion.
    He appealed to the government to support the Legion develop a plot of land it purchased to utilise for an office accommodation and a Guest House for the Chairman.
    Responding to the governor’s plea, the Deputy Governor, Mr Aminu Usman donated the sum of N500,000 on behalf of himself and his family.
    The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Bala Ibrahim also, donated the sum of N300,000 to the Legion.
    The entire members of the state Executive Council, Technical Advisers and Special Advisers to the Governor also ,ade various donations.
    In the same vein, the government House Press crew also announced the donation of N50,000 to the Legion.
    The Nigeria Legion is a non-profit Nigerian veterans’ organisation founded in 1964, with whose membership includes people who served in the Nigerian Armed Forces.
    It is a statutory body as outlined in the Federal Republic of Nigeria official Gazzette No. 64, volume 75 dated to September 1988.
