Jigawa Executive Council has approved the constitution of Community Polling Units Development Fund Committee, to fast-track grassroots development across the state.
Mr Sagir Musa, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, disclosed this on Thursday, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state’s weekly Executive Council Meeting.
He said the constitution of the committee was an initiative that underscored the commitment of Gov. Umar Namadi’s administration, “to ensuring development reaches the grassroots in an inclusive, transparent, and sustainable manner. ”
The committee, he explained: “Is mandated to fast-track community-level development, ensure that projects and interventions directly address the needs of citizens at the polling-unit levels statewide.”
Musa listed members of the committee to include; the Chief of Staff to the governor as Chairman, while six Commissioners, two Special Advisers, three Local Government Chairmen and two other representatives were appointed as members.
He revealed that the Permanent Secretary, Jigawa Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, would serve as the committee’s secretary.
“The council has mandated the committee to develop and present a comprehensive framework for the implementation of the Polling Units Development Funds Initiative.
“To ensure the successful execution of projects and interventions at the grassroots level and promote transparency, accountability, and equitable distribution of resources across communities.
“They will also facilitate citizen participation in the planning and monitoring of local polling units development initiatives,” the commissioner said.
He further stressed that establishment of the committee, reflects the administration’s determination, to ensure that the socio-economic benefits of government policies reaches every corner of the state.
According to Musa, the committee is given a three-week period to present a detailed implementation modalities framework before the council.
