Jigawa state Executive Council has directed all political appointees, to champion the back to school initiative, to accelerate enrolment, retention, and transition of children in basic education.
The Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa disclosed this at a press briefing after the weekly state executive council meeting on Thursday in Dutse.
He said that Namadi gave the order after following a presentation made before the Council, by the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), on the Back-to-School Campaign Improved Implementation Framework.
According to him, ” The framework was designed to accelerate the enrolment, retention, and transition of children in basic education across the State.”
He stressed that the council, also adopted the recommendations made in the presentation, including the establishment of a Steering Committee and a technical committee, to overoversee the implementation of the framework.
The steering committee according to the Commissioner, will be chaired by Commissioner Basic Education, Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, while the technical Committee will be chaired by Chairman SUBEB, Professor Haruna Musa.
Both committees Mr Musa said, will guide, monitor and coordinate the effective implementation of the programme statewide.
Furthermore, Mr Musa explained that the Council has similarly issued directives to all political appointees and Local Government Chairmen, to fully participate and support the initiative too.
All political appointees, including the SSG, Chief of Staff, commissioners and advisers, are mandated to ensure the return back of at least 100 out-of-school children safely in their communities.
Based on the council’s order, the Commissioner revealed that all Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants are expected to ensure the return of at least 50 children back to school.
The order also clearly stated that all the 27 Local Government Chairmen, are also to ensure that not less than 1,000 children are returned to school in their respective Local Government Areas.
“This they should do as personal projects between now and the commencement of the second term of the 2026 academic session, ” Musa said.
The directives he disclosed, have formed a part of the administration’s unwavering commitment to reduce the number of out-of-school children, improve access to quality basic education, and strengthen human capital development.
In addition, the Commissioner that the council further called on all government officials, community leaders, parents, and stakeholders, to work collectively to ensure that every child in the state goes to school
