No fewer than 66,044 people have defected from other parties and joined the Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa state on Saturday.
While speaking at the event held at Mini Stadium in Dutse metropolis, the former National Chairman of the APC and Yobe state Governor, MaiMala Buni, said the defectors would be treated with fairness.
Representing President Bola Tinubu, Buni said the Renewed Hope agenda is already yielding results, especially in its efforts to revive the country’s economy.
He commended Governor Umar Namadi for attracting such a large number or defectors to the party due to good governance.
Tinubu however, pledged to improve the country’s security as well as provide more infrastructural and economic development.
In his remarks, the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, welcomed the defectors and urged them to be loyal to the party.
According to him, “The mass defection is an indication that people have confidence in our party’s administration at the state and national al level,” he said.
He expressed optimism that Jigawa is satisfied with the infrastructural and human development of the administration.
Earlier, the Chief host and the Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, revealed that the defectors were from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and African Democrstic Congress (ADC).
Namadi reiterated his administration’s commitment to promote unity amongst party members.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his exemplary leadership and dedication to national development.
