A non governmental organisation, Civil Society Coalition on Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution in Jigawa State, has appealed to the citizens of the state to embrace development with shared vision of the future.
The President of the Coalition, Mr Musbahu Basurka, made the appeal at a press conference held at NUJ Secretariat Dutse, on Friday.
He said that in the light of the current out-cry about Jigawa State government’s bid to construct 1,000 Commercial Shops at Farm Centre in Kano, residents needed to adopt monumental development and understanding.
“This is a moment for collaboration, not division and its a time for thoughtful engagement so we implore all to resist the urge to politicize matters that are tied to the economic survival of our beloved state,” he said.
The matter he said, is of paramount importance to Jigawa State, as the vision of the project will boost Jigawa’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Jigawa state like other states he said, grapples with the imperative of diversifying its revenue streams beyond the fluctuating federal allocations and this project offers a golden opportunity to achieve it.
The Coalition however, recalled that the land which belonged to Jigawa state, could be best utilised when developed into a huge investment.
It could be recalled that the Jigawa State Council’s approval for the award of contract for the Construction of 1000 Commercial Shops at Farm Center Kano at the total sum of N3,542,092,535.51K.
The approval generated a lot of public debate as to why the state government could invest a huge sum of money to develop a land it has but based in another state.
In the same vein, the Coalition implored the residents to engage constructively instead of casting doubt on the gigantic project.
“We welcome, actively encourage, and eagerly await your valuable suggestions on the best ways to maximize the benefits of this crucial project for sustainable impact to the people,” Basurka said.
