Stakeholders in Jigawa state, have appealed to the state government to provide free Family Planning commodities to women in need of the commodities.
The stakeholders made the appeal ay a one day social mobilization meeting or all stakeholders on Family Planning and Reproductive Health
Some of them, disclosed how women in the state have been enlightened about how planning child spacing improves the overall wellbeing of women.
An Islamic scholar, Sheik Muhammed Abubakar, one of them, disclosed that Islam has provided solution to health challenges that affect women’s health
According to him, a woman can space her births whenever there is need based on health terms.
He however, urged men who don’t allow their wives to have a stake in their health and birth, to avoid it.
Mrs Alliya Adamu, the Reproductive Health Coordinator, Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, also revealed the importance of child spacing.
She said, many women in Jigawa state even in remote areas have been enlightened about child spacing.
“Now that they are aware, their major challenge is availability of free family planning commodities.
“In the early days of campaigns on using contraceptives for birth spacing, there was availability of commodities without users and now it’s vice versa”, she said.
Mrs Adamu then appealed to the state government to make purchase of the contraceptives to make it easy for the women.
She added that the current economic situation is an additional reason why many men allow their wives to access family planning.
Mrs Blessing Muhammed, The Challenge Initiative’s Program Officer in Jigawa, reviewed the document for strategic communication.
