Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, has began a 3-day training of 60 Facilitators to drive the non-formal education initiative, “Second chance education component” in Kano.
Speaking at the launch of the training in Dutse, Jigawa state, Miss Hafsat Adhama, the Component Lead of the Second chance project, tasked the beneficiaries to focus during the training days.
According to her, more than 300 facilitators applied and were evaluated based on their qualifications, experience in non-formal education, understanding of local contexts, and passion for adolescent girls.
“The process culminated in the selection of 60 most qualified facilitators, ensuring that only the highest-quality resources and personnel were chosen to support the AGILE Programme’s mission.
“This rigorous selection process, underscores the commitment of the AGILE Programme and its partners, to provide girls with a meaningful second chance education for a brighter future,” she said.
She explained that about 60 learning centres were identified by the project at various locations across the 44 local government areas of Kano state.
In his remarks, The Technical Adviser of the program, Prof. Auwal Halilu, stressed the importance of the training, saying that it is a specialised training that needed concentration.
He urged the participants to be attentive as their are huge gaps between formal education and informal education.
Halilu urged them to be friendly and easy going, in order to instill the needed education and skills into the minds of their target students.
The project coordinator, Mr Mujittapha Aminu in his presentation, said the assessment of the learning centers prioritized accessibility, safety and community support.
“Availability of basic amenities to create a comfortable and secure learning environment for adolescent girls, were also factors considered in selecting the learning centres,” he explained.
Furthermore, Mr Aminu revealed that over a 100 learning centers across 44 Local Government Areas were identified, yet the process culminated in the selection of the 20 best learning centers.
“So we will ensure that only the highest-quality resources and personnel were chosen to support the AGILE Programme’s mission,” Aminu stressed.
The Adolescent Girls Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Programme in Kano, is a critical intervention designed to provide adolescent girls with access to quality second-chance education through non-formal learning opportunities.
The program aims to bridge the educational gap for out-of-school girls, promote gender equality and empower young girls with knowledge and life skills essential for their personal and social development.
