    Jigawa state govt settles N1.5 billion to 609 retirees

    Jigawa state government has disbursed over N1,543 Billion as payment of terminal benefits to 609 persons who retired from active service, on attainment of 35 years of service.
    A statatement signed by Mr Ismail Ibrahim, the spokesperson, Jigawa state office of the head of Service  made this known on Tuesday in Dutse.
    It said that the payment was made to cover the period between August to December, 2024, by the Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme Board.
    The statement revealed that the Board Executive Secretary, Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, while addressing the beneficiaries at the premises of the board, said the payment was categorized into four.
    “The first batch of 465 retired staff, consists of those who retired either by reaching the mandatory retirement age of 35 years in service, or sixty years by birth were paid N1,173,946,287 Billion.
    “The second category of 103 staff, are those who died while in active service, where their relatives were paid the sum of N315,023,121.01million.
    “The third batch consists of 39 retirees, who retired from service and started receiving monthly pension, but died before reaching their minimum period of five years post retirement, they were paid N54,193,759.77million,” Bilyaminu said.
    The last batch according to the ES, were beneficiaries who did not contribute up to a period of five years and the law stated that for every staff to qualify to be paid from the scheme, he must contribute for a minimum period of five years.

    “Under this category, we have paid two person, the sum of N749, 010.31 including 15% interest,” He highlighted.

    The Executive Secretary however, warned pensioners across Jigawa State, to be wary of fraudsters, saying that the board’s services are free.
    He further warned them against bribing any of staff of the board for speedy payment of terminal benefits, noting that there are guidelines establishing the Board, in line with consonant of Pension regulations.

    Moreso, the ES called on citizens of the State, to continue supporting the state government with prayers, to achieve a better Jigawa, where everyone will be comfortable in the shared prosperity agenda of the Namadi administration.

    He expressed appreciation to Gov. Umar Namadi, for his care and magnanimity to Pensioners in the State.
    He thus noted that the prompt payment of Pensions and gratuities, has helped to gladden the heart of Pensioners.
    Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Umar Muhammed, commended the governor for prioritizing issues concerning Pensioners’ welfare.
