December 11, 2024(NAN) Jigawa state government has sealed a strategic deal with a United Kingdom based education solution organisation, NewGlobe, on basic education.
The deal which was sealed on Wednesday, will ensure implementation of the “Jigawa Unite” initiative, with an aim to transform basic education in the state.
Governor Umar Namadi of the state, said the MoU seeks to enhance literacy and numeracy skills, by equipping pupils with the foundational knowledge necessary to thrive in the modern world.
Namadi expressed his administration’s commitment, to revamping the education sector as part of his 12-point agenda.
“The history we are making today, is because education is part of our 12-point agenda and within the last 14 months, we are doing our best to see how we can improve the education,” he stated.
The Governor highlighted the recent achievements, including the launch of “Jigawa Compete,” a secondary education initiative and the introduction of technical and vocational education at senior secondary schools.
He further revealed that the state executive council approved the introduction of technical and vocational education at the senior secondary school level.
Namadi stressed that it is a very huge investment that will take a lot of the state resources, to building the future of the people.
The MoU with NewGlobe, Namadi said, is a step towards revamping the basic education in an attempt to ensure we transform the entire education system.
Representative of the NewGlobe Mr. Jay Kimmelman, the Chief Operatinh Officer of the organisation, praised the Governor’s visionary leadership.
He stated that with the launch of Jigawa UNITE, they are going to transform education for every child here in Jigawa state, for them to reach their full potential.
“Education is the foundation of lasting prosperity. It’s the surest path to economic growth and societal progress.
“As governor, we know you understand this because you have shown your leadership by uplifting the cognitive skills of a state.” Kimmelman said.
He further emphasized that Jigawa’s future will not be determined by its resources or geography but by the skills, knowledge, and creativity of its people.
It was gathered that the initiative’s design, considers Jigawa’s unique needs, with customized plans to ensure optimal outcomes.
According to the deal, about 50% of the state’s basic schools will implement Jigawa Unite, involving over 1,000 schools in the first phase.

The remaining schools will be managed by the state’s education teams to foster a healthy competition and ensure continuous improvement.

Among the key objectives of Jigawa UNITE are, enhancing literacy and numeracy outcomes among children, supporting teachers with cutting-edge tools and methodologies and engaging communities to foster a culture of education.
