Kano state Governor Abba Kabir, has said that his administration promotes press freedom and ensures that journalists have a conducive atmosphere for work in the state.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Mustapha Muhammad said, the governor stated this while receiving “the Journalist-Friendly” Award in Abuja on Saturday.

It said that the Deputy Governor, Comrade Abdussalam Gwarzo received the award on behalf of the Governor, saying that numerous initiatives were being introduced by the Abba Kabir led administration.

The initiative acvording to the statement, included improving the working condition, empowerment and motivation of all journalists. 

According to the Governor “This award is dedicated to the entire people of Kano State and all well-wishers, who believe in freedom of information and responsible journalism.”

He pledged to continue to partner with the media sector to strengthen democracy, good governance, and the free flow of information.

Governor Abba Kabir of Kano, was awarded with a prestigious award of  Journalist-Friendly Governor; at the 70’s anniversary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

This event underscores the importance of a cordial relationship between the government and the press in fostering development, transparency, and the growth of democratic values. 

The National President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Abdullahi, commended the governor for drumming support to journalists and journalism profession in general. 

The event which took place at the Yar’adua Centre, has the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris in attendance, as well as former Presidents of the NUJ and several other members and leaders across the country.
