Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, has signed a law to establish a Ministry for Livestock Development, to boost agricultural productivity, innovation and economic growth in the state.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor,  Mr Hamisu Gumel, said the law was signed on Tuesday.

The statement said that the executive order establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development, is a strategic move, designed to harness Jigawa’s giant potential in the livestock sector.

It said that during the closed door ceremony, Governor Namadi described the new ministry as “quite an important ministry,” noting that Jigawa state has one of the largest livestock markets in Africa.

It reported the Governor saying, “With our activities in the livestock sector, the establishment of this ministry is a welcome development.”

According to the statement, Namadi also signed the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Service (JATS) Law 2025, which establishes an agency to drive the state’s agricultural industrialization agenda.

The statement explained that the agency is going to drive agricultural transformation activities and will serve as a model, not only in Jigawa and northern Nigeria, but in Nigeria as a whole.

It emphasized that these initiatives,  are part of the administration’s vision to modify agriculture, from subsistence farming into an industrialized sector.

“We are optimistic that it will create more jobs, boosts food security, and strengthens Jigawa’s economy,” the statement quoted the Governor. 

Namadi according to the statement, appreciated the State Executive Council, for approving the establishment of the two institutions and expressed confidence that they will deliver on the mandates.
