Jigawa state governor Umar Namadi, has called for corporate responsibility in tackling corruption at all levels.
Namadi made the call on Tuesday, while declaring open a 3-days sensitization workshop for public servants, on activities of the Jigawa anti-graft commission.
He said that corruption is a widespread culture that tears society apart, by destroying trust in government institutions and keeping inequality alive.
“Good governance which includes accountability and openness, is the only way to fight poverty, speed up socioeconomic development, and make positive changes in society.
“It is a very commendable initiative, considering its perfect alignment with the commitment of our administration to always uphold and promote all the tenets of good governance,” he revealed.
He highlighted the significant efforts  made by the Jigawa anti-graft Commission since its establishment in 2022, revealing that the it has recovered over N300 million in public funds.
It has also resolved nearly half of the 200 complaints received and its currently prosecuting 16 cases, said Namadi.
“These successes demonstrate the commission’s alignment with our unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, fairness and justice,” he said.
The Governor however, urged stakeholders, to contribute to the fight against corruption, stating that senior government officials, also have a responsibility to uphold integrity, transparency and accountability.

In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of commission, Esq. Salisu Abdu, described the workshop as a crucial step to strengthen transparency and accountability in the public sector.

He emphasized that transparency, accountability and integrity are the cornerstones of good governance, thus and called for collaboration between the Commission and government agencies.

Abdu also highlighted the Commission’s mandate, noting that it operates independently with the powers to receive, investigate and monitor complaints or allegations of corrupt practices.
The commission he added, also has a mandate to enforce anti-corruption laws and ensure compliance with government processes and procedures.
In a goodwill message, the state Chief Judge, Justice Umar Sadiq, said all public and private individuals, have a role to play in fighting corruption.
Represemted by Justice Abubakar Sambo, the CJ, advocated for all to join the fight, in order to have a stable governance in the county.
The judiciary he said, has been critically playing its role in fighting corruption at all levels.
The sensitization workshop organized by the Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (JSPCACC), was attended to by senior government officials and civil servants.
Representatives from the Ministry of Justice, judiciary, ICPC and the EFCC were also in attendance.
